JOB CLASSIFICATION: Network Administration Technician



JOB SUMMARY: O&M of network hardware/software; security; e-mail platform support; network administration; configuration management; fault isolation and repair. Provide assistance and guidance to Help Desk personnel; support network security policy and procedures; assist with hardware and software configuration management.

Administer electronic mail accounts; manage global address mailing lists

Perform post office management; IP address; DNS; Web and Remote Access Services.

Administer Defense Messaging System (DMS) and customer electronic mail accounts.

Coordinate updates/changes to global address lists with other bases.

Monitor post office status and ensure propagation of inter-postal traffic.

Troubleshoot and resolve network, equipment, configuration, interface, and protocol problems.

Assist in performing analysis, planning and design of LAN architecture.

Perform most equipment repairs, installs, removals and upgrades.

Monitor network performance and security measures.

Perform maintenance tasks on network servers, hubs, switches and similar equipment.

Perform configuration management.? Perform network backups, file restorals, PMIs and testing.

Develop technical solutions, design and implement upgrades/changes.

Develop and distribute SMS packages.

Support, administer and develop web services.

Provide remote user support and Level III Help Desk support.

Add, remove, delete and modify accounts and permissions.

Support security management directions from Information Assurance Office.



JOB REQUIREMENT: Knowledge of systems and network administration in a Windows 2000 Active Directory, Windows XP, and NT 4.0 environment. Knowledge and experience with network infrastructure including ATM, HSRP, Cisco Routers and Switches. Knowledge and experience of Air Force and Air Force Space Command instructions and security requirements for communications networks. Hands on experience with systems including but not limited to MS Exchange 5.5 and 2000, DMS, DNS, DHCP, Remedy Trouble Ticketing System, Cisco Works 2000, Cisco Secure, performing hardware maintenance on HP Compaq and Dell servers.



EXPERIENCE: 3 - 4 years LAN operations, maintenance and support. High school diploma; significant progress towards MCSE or CCNA.
