POSITION DESCRIPTION:

As a Consultant, Applications Development, you will be the project manager and technology consultant for the Scientific Applications department of Research Information Services, focusing on the support of Vaccines Research. You will manage all phases of complex, sophisticated information system projects, from initiation to deployment and support. A portion of this responsibility involves hands-on software design, development and support. You will establish business justification, lead technical direction, develop and maintain project timelines, coordinate and supervise project resources, and manage project budgets. You will work with client management, project team leaders, stakeholders, Information Services leadership, and the broad user community to develop, provide input to and implement short and long-term IT strategic plans. In addition, you will apply knowledge of business processes and priorities, company standards and information technology trends to the architecture, design and software development (Java/Oracle) of advanced application projects and service and process improvement initiatives. As a client liaison, you will work independently to develop and maintain solid collaborative relationships with business clients. You must understand, document and communicate business needs to Information Services management, and assure compliance with all company policies and procedures for project deliverables, system development lifecycle, and internal department functions.

You must have a BS/BA/MS/MA with 10 or more years of experience, PhD with 4 or more years of experience, or equivalent experience. The degree must be in a scientific, mathematical or engineering discipline; life sciences is preferred. Experience in Java software development and Oracle relational database is required. You must also have a demonstrated project management track record. Experience in J2EE (EJB, JMS, JSP, Servlets), Struts,WebLogic and Oracle stored procedures is preferred. In addition, experience in a pharmaceutical/biotech regulated environment is preferred. Excellent oral and written skills are required.
