PURPOSE
· VMware Certified Professional (Consultant)
· Windows Internet disaster recovery (DR) project
· For the virtual infrastructure (VI)
· Midrange Computing Division (MCD) of the Internal Services Department.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
(must have the following to be considered)

1. Must be a VMware Certified Professional (VCP). Documentary evidence of current certification must be presented if called to be interviewed.
2. Three (3) years current experience as a VCP installing, configuring, and maintaining VMware ESX Server, VMware VirtualCenter, VMware P2V, and VMotion
3. One (1) year current experience as a VCP installing, configuring, and maintaining VMware HA, DRS, Lab Manager, and VDI.
4. One (1) year current experience migrating and supporting more than one hundred (100) Windows and/or Linux ESX Virtual Servers for DR.

BACKGROUND

.The Windows Systems Section of MCD offers departments, agencies, and commissions an Internet hosting service for the Microsoft Windows server platform similar to those offered by Internet Service Providers.
. Section supports over seven hundred (700) Windows servers.
· Project to provide disaster recovery for the entire virtual infrastructure across multiple data centers.
· To date there are over 300 Windows virtual machines running VMware virtualization software.
. MCD will require expertise in implementing disaster recovery for virtual machines.
· MCD has deployed products from VMware, Inc., and EMC Corporation at two data centers:
o a production center in Downey, California,
o and a local disaster recovery center in Santa Ana, California.
o The product mix consists of several Symmetrix models, various Connectrix models, and CLARiiONs at the respective centers.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

VMware Certified Professional Contractor will be responsible for the following:
· Work under the direction of the Section manager and/or the DR project manager
· Provide technical directions and/or support to team members
· Troubleshoot highly-complex problems in the virtual environment
· Provide project plans & technical briefings
· Work with the MCD project team to
- validate MCD's current configuration and environment with pre-site documentation
- develop high and low level designs of the proposed disaster recovery for the virtual environment
- develop high and low level designs using VMware Consolidated Backup (VCB)
- develop high and low level designs using VMware Site Recovery Manager (SRM)
- develop high and low level designs using Cisco VFrame
- develop high and low level designs for VMware Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI)
·Implement and roll out:
- VMware Site Recovery Manager
- VMware ESX Server 3.x for DR
- VMware VirtualCenter for DR
- VMware HA, DRS, and VCB for DR
- virtual machines for DR
·Perform knowledge transfer and cross training of MCD staff

TASKS

VMware Certified Professional Contractor tasks:
· Work with MCD project team and SAN group, to configure
- Volume / LUN Access and Volume Security (if necessary) for DR
- device interfaces (if necessary) for DR
- Storage Frames storage array for DR
· Work with MCD project team
- to verify Host-to-SAN-to-Storage connectivity
- to install, configure, and test HA, and DRS for Linux and Windows VMs for DR
- to install, configure, and test VCB for DR
- to install, configure, and test disaster recovery for the virtual environment
· Install, configure, and troubleshoot:
- a minimum of two (2) ESX/VirtualCenter systems
- a minimum of fifteen (20) ESX Server 3.x systems
· Operate and manage ESX Server & VMware Virtual Center
· Configure networking under ESX Server
· Set ESX Server resource allocation policies and manage the resources
·Install, configure, and troubleshoot clustering between ESX Server and Virtual Machines and test failover and disaster recovery
· Install, configure, and troubleshoot Virtual Machines under ESX Server
· Administer Cisco VFrame for the virtual infrastructure
· Administer Virtual Machines under ESX Server
·Install, configure, troubleshoot and manage:
- VMware Lab Manager
- VMware SRM
· Monitor and tune ESX Server for VDI & ESX Server for VI
· Troubleshoot an ESX Server
· Configure SNMP event forwarding for the VirtualCenter to the CIC mtrapd probe
· Document system configurations and design architecture
· Provide on-going knowledge transfer to MCD junior staff
· Respond to phone calls and pages for support of the virtual infrastructure, including off-hours support
