Position Description:




The ideal candidate will Act as a database planner across four database groups. Work with the entire database organization of 70 DBAs to deliver comprehensive database solutions supporting business functions, OLTP systems, Information Integration,

Enterprise Data Warehouse, Data Marts and other enterprise data stores.

Produce and maintain the database system architecture blueprint composed of user interface, web server, application layer, database server, connection layer, and operating systems; as appropriate for OLTP and decision support environments.

Participate with the database managers and team leads to develop strategic directions for DBMS infrastructure/architecture design and solutions, including DBMS platform, DBA productivity tools, DBMS utilities, database monitoring, database connectivity, and DBMS access tools.

Act as a focal point interfacing with various groups such as Enterprise Architecture, Application Development and Operations in IT on integrated system solution design.

Participate in CDP Qualified Idea and Concept phases. Initiate and/or attend design review meetings, and review solution design documents.

Act as a focal point in database server capacity planning.

Maintain application/database system architecture diagrams and provide pertinent DB information and DB impact analysis to the DBS organization.

Chair internal database design reviews to ensure adherence to established standards and best practices.



Skills/Experience:



Bachelors degree, or equivalent experience, in Computer Science or a related discipline

UDB LUW, DPF, UDB V5/6/7/8/9 database administration.

DB2 Backup, Recovery and High Availability expertise including HACMP / HADR / Split Mirroring / Log Shipping / or similar solutions.

Desired skills: SQL Server, Oracle, BMC Patrol, DB2 Connect, written white papers on database technology.

Extensive knowledge of DB2 UDB performance monitoring and tuning procedures.

Able to install DB2 and apply FixPacks.

Skilled in UNIX Shell scripting.

Expert SQL skills including ability to rewrite complex queries for performance improvement.

Able to architect databases, including intricate capacity, memory, data sizing, and disk layouts.

Highly skilled in complex troubleshooting and problem resolution methods

Project management skills

Hardware/Operating Systems/Software: IBM Regatta, SUN Solaris, Win2000, Win2005, EMC, Timefinder, AIX, BMC Patrol, TSM, TDP

RDBMS:UDB LUW

High degree of understanding of business requirements, enterprise architecture, application development environments, middleware connectivity, various DBMS features, operating system characteristics and network protocols

Ability to influence others without direct control, and to coordinate multiple simultaneous efforts with complex overlaps and multiple conflicting priorities

SOX, PCI and HIPAA compliance knowledge, and Information Management/Database Administration hands-on technical knowledge

10+ years of Database Administration experience

Analytical ability, strong judgment and problem analysis techniques, an in-depth knowledge of database administration, and a broad knowledge of diverse data administration methodologies, database technologies, tools, and alternatives.

Excellent oral/written communication skills

Extensive work experience in information technology and diverse technological environments data and process analysis and modeling, logical database design, physical database design and implementation

Strong knowledge of distributed database concepts and design

Database development and production support experience in a large 24 x 7 UDB LUW environment

Understanding of n-tier architecture, cluster and database connectivity issues in a client/server environment

A proven track record of designing, developing and implementing OLTP and decision support applications

Comprehensive solution design experience in a highly complex and large-scale environment

Ability to interact with technical resources and executive management effectively
Implementation experience with UDB LUW, DPF

Strong physical database design, performance tuning and capacity planning skills

Replication setup experience utilizing various technologies based on user requirements
