Job Summary

The primary purpose of this position is be the most senior member of the team to design, develop, test, and support critical Global Clinical Team (GCT) applications. A keen eye toward overall system architecture and selection of proper technology direction is crucial.

An individual contributor providing the highest level of expertise for the development, specification and communication of GCT’s technology architecture plan, the infrastructure components required to support it, and in the integration of corporate and GCT architectures. Leads multiple projects for the area. Develops innovative and effective solutions for the most diverse and most complex business and technology problems.

This person will influence the work and direction of a team of 35 developers (both contractors and employees), these people will be situated in three or more locations (Collegeville, PA; Cambridge, MA; Bangalore, India; Paris, France).

Job Responsibilities

Acts as principal designer for major Clinical BS&P systems architecture including applications, data, and infrastructure architectures. Provides project leadership; with broad industry perspective, provides technology direction and process improvement.

Provides integrated systems planning and recommends new or different technologies which will enhance current systems and support overall Research and Clinical goals. Develops solutions to a wide variety of complex problems that require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity. Quickly grasps the essence of complex information.

Researches and evaluates new and/or alternative solutions and technologies to enhance operational effectiveness and reduce costs. Works closely with senior level management on significant technical matters providing new technology applications.

Leads and directs multiple projects managing resources and monitoring progress. Constructively handles conflict and encourages collaboration within IT groups.

Provides in-depth technical consultation to clients and IT managements to ensure development of efficient application systems utilizing established standards, procedures, and methodologies.

Develops and oversees overall security strategy for integrated systems access. Provides input to long-term IT Strategy as well as input as to how to achieve organizational goals. May impact resource allocations or departmental goals.

Manages vendor relationships to maintain state of the art knowledge in emerging technologies and to develop image as a leading corporation utilizing the latest proven thinking in technology. Stays up to date on trends and developments within functional area of expertise and the industry.

Basic Qualifications

BS/BA / MS/MA +12 years or PhD + 6-7 years or equivalent experience. Advanced knowledge of hardware/ software; wide application of knowledge in more than one major technical area. Expert in J2EE development. Project Management certification helpful

Applicable SOPs

Expert knowledge of design and implementation of enterprise workflow systems, distributed architecture, internet architecture, web services, SOA, communication architectures.

A senior level knowledge of the system development life cycle , and system and application program development technological alternatives and architecture methodologies for multi-platform environments.

Must be competent to work at the highest technical level of all phases of systems architecture design using start of the art for rules based architecture, object oriented component analysis and development, and proficiency in Java, C++, J2EE, Web services.

System Architecture skills, Technical experience required, project management skills, large organization influence skills, and a plus would be exposure to Pharmaceutical company in the Clinical arena.

Senior level understanding of Clinical functions and systems

Excellent communication and interpersonal and consultative skills to work effectively with vendors, clients, peers, and IT management and staff. Strong oral & written communication skills

Ability to lead teams on short-term projects

Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office suite and other business related software systems and hardware.

Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiatives, assume responsibility, and make timely decisions

Knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry/clinical development process

Good knowledge of compliance requirements that pertain to computer systems

Relocation is not available for this position.
