CDI is currently looking for a Senior Systems Engineer to join our team; join CDI today.

Location: Boston, MA
Terms: Contract (7 months)
Minimum experience: 5-8 years

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Senior Level System Engineer to join group and participate in supporting and enhancing a Linux based services Infrastructure in support of Production, QA, and Software Engineering Development environments.

Three+ tier Java/J2EE distributed applications environment running under Tomcat and WebLogic, using Oracle for persistent data storage. Systems environment is principally Linux, with some Solaris and Windows servers.

Ensure integrity and uptime of productions servers serving approx 1/4 million customers by serving as level two triage for Applications, Systems, and Network issues in Production and Development Environments.

Deploy WAR applications and associated application and RDBMS data to production servers in sync with general Application Deployments.

Maintain groups of x68 Servers running RedHat as well as application services running on hosts (Tomcat, MySQL, WebLogic, Maple) that support Production and QA.

Work with and Support IT, Developers, and QA departments to coordinate Systems Enhancements, Maintenance and, application deployments.

Develop tools and automation processes to eliminate repetitive tasks and enhance reliability of Systems Engineering operations and processes.

Work to upgrade Systems Infrastructure thought implementation of management, monitoring tools as well as standardizing machine config, and upgrading systems software, and systems and applications configurations.

Forward and be open to creative solutions applying current technology to Systems, Release, and Deployment Engineering problems.

SKILLS:

Required: Senior level technical ability in maintaining, troubleshooting, and enhancing UNIX/Linux based Infrastructure supporting Java and Web applications.

Required: Ability to execute all standard Systems Administration Tasks via the UNIX command line.

Required: Solid experience with RedHat Linux (systems installation, troubleshooting, and optimization), Solaris basic maintenance and troubleshooting.

Required: Windows Server basic maintaining of servers and troubleshooting.

Required: Solid working knowledge of server hardware of x86 hardware.

Required: Proficient in configuration and troubleshooting of TCP/IP networking and routing issues.

Required: Ability to manage groups of systems and automate repetitive management tasks such as general configuration, OS installation, and application updates.

Required: Solid working knowledge of Java/JSP/Servlet/RDBMS based applications packaging and deployment under Tomcat.

Required: General understanding of RDBMS technologies; preferably with some experience configuring Oracle and MySQL connectivity.

Required: Very solid understanding of Tomcat and Apache configuration and troubleshooting including WAR and content deployment and configuration.

Required: Automation of repetitive and complex Systems Administration tasks using high level scripting in perl or python.

Required: Implementation of system monitoring tools within frameworks such as nagios, open nms, and cacti.

Preferred: Desire to work toward improvement of systems and environment rather than just keeping status quo.

Preferred: Some level of project management skills and mid to long term task planning and execution.

Preferred: User and even Admin Knowledge of JIRA and Confluence.

Preferred: Blackboard Services and Deployments.

Preferred: Release Engineering experience in support build processes and servers.

Preferred: Reading and potentially basic development knowledge of OO Java development.

Preferred: Technologies: JIRA, Confluence, maven, nagios, cacti, VMWare/Solaris Zones., Eclipse, Java/J2EE, php, groovy/grails.

Preferred: Perforce, WebLogic, Solaris, deep knowledge of tomcat, debugging of network and routing issues.
Preferred: Application build and packaging with maven, ant, rpm or other package format.
