Job Description:

Project Background: Fleet Numerical Meteorology and Oceanography Center (FNMOC), in Monterey, CA, supplies weather data, and weather products and services to the US Navy and other government customers, on a 24/7/365 basis. FNMOC is an operational Navy site, but also does leading-edge development work in areas ranging from developing new atmospheric and oceanographic numerical weather models, to architecting new High Performance Computing (HPC) systems. Locally, FNMOC is closely aligned with the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) in Monterey and the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS), also in Monterey. FNMOC also collaborates with meteorologists, oceanographers, and computer scientists both nationally and internationally.

WE ARE SEEKING: A senior level candidate experienced with Solaris, AIX, and Linux Operating Systems (O/S). Skilled in O/S maintenance, performance monitoring and tuning, troubleshooting, and interface software support to maintain various systems. Background and work experience should include administration of large unix systems (e.g., SUN E10000s, a large Beowulf cluster, etc.) and/or administration of a large number of systems.

Job Qualifications:

**US Citizenship AND Secret Clearance Required**
Suggested background specifics:
1. Red Hat Linux (Enterprise Level) Operating System
2. AIX Operating System
3. Cluster technology: specifically the IBM e1350 cluster and the IBM pSeries cluster
4. IBM GPFS file systems
5. CSM (or Director, and/or Unicenter) experience
6. System and inter-system troubleshooting
7. Software and Operating System installation, including registration
8. Web services software
9. Open Source software
10. Excellent TCP/IP networking skills
11. Extensive scripting (shell, PERL, etc.) skills
12. And, sometimes the less "glamorous" aspects of sys sdmin duties, including setting up new accounts, resolving why backups did not complete successfully, fixing e-mail problems.
