Description
Qpass Technical Operations operates a real-time, 7x24 system to which major wireless carriers, their customers, and content providers connect. This system processes thousands of transactions per hour over peak and low periods. Proper tuning of the system is essential in order to achieve the throughput needed to process these transactions in a timely manner. The system has also evolved over time to its current configuration which may no longer be optimal. The system uses Apache, Tomcat, and BEA WebLogic Server and runs on Red Hat Linux.

Experience Requirements:
. At least 2 years experience using BEA Weblogic Server in a high transaction system
. At least 1 year experience with BEA WebLogic JRockit
. At least 2 years experience with optimizing Tomcat and Apache in a web-based, high transaction volume processing system
. At least 1 year experience utilizing performance tools to identify root causes of problems
. At least 3 years experience with J2EE with a thorough understanding of Java components
. A strong working knowledge of Tomcat is preferred
. At least 3 years experience with Linux, Red Hat Enterprise Linux being a plus
. Some experience with HP-UX and Oracle 9i is a plus

Responsibilities:
. Review current operating system architecture to determine whether we are using the right components and the proper mix of components
. Analyze system components and performance to identify needed changes
. Ensure the compatibility of all application platform components and their upgrade levels
. Perform patch analysis on application platform components to determine when these components should be patched
. Research and remain current on system components, patches, and upgrades, determine when system components should be performed
. Maintain 99.5% system availability at the operating level
. Forecast and project system load levels, derive alternatives to handle expected future load
. Develop an annual plan, updated quarterly, to maintain system performance levels and stay ahead of the performance curve
. Investigate and troubleshoot performance problems
. Utilize performance/load testing methodologies to identify potential bottlenecks and system performance problems

Education Requirements:
. College degree preferred but not required

. Ability to identify needs, formulate a plan, and manage to a plan
