Description
Genesis10 is seeking a senior level Teradata DBA for a 12 month contract position in the Pasadena, CA area. This project is scheduled to begin 8/9/04.
**Note....W2 position only; no 3rd party candidates...US Citizens/Green Card Holders only....
Designs, develops, implements, and maintains Teradata Enterprise Data Warehouse.
Set up and implement backup/recovery and security strategies.
Monitor and evaluate backup/disaster recovery strategy as the Teradata system increases in size.
Monitor the performance of databases and make tuning changes.
Recommend physical database change, such as join and secondary indexes, partitioned primary indexes, to improve performance.
Monitor ETL processes responsible for updating the Teradata system to insure data consistency and availability.
Participate in the design and implementation of Teradata Data Marts derived from the Enterprise Data Warehouse or associated Operational Data Stores.
Oversee ongoing system capacity planning, forecasting, and tuning.
Manage storage (both permanent space and spool space) to determine when additional nodes should be budgeted.
Identify modifications to tools or need for alternate monitoring tools.
Perform research, prepare technical studies, and makes recommendations.
Prepare business requirements reports, feasibility studies, and cost justification statements.
Articulate information architecture to clients.
Consult with higher level resources to ensure consistency of recommendations with enterprise direction.
Research and evaluate alternative solutions and recommend the most cost effective design solutions.
Works closely with technical and client management to ensure implementation of database management and support tools for complex business application development requirements and processes in accordance with latest enterprise direction (e.g., diverse development platforms, technological environments, software, hardware and tools).
Assist Team Lead in the design and implementation of large, complex database solutions.
Consult with IT staff and clients to determine the impact of new or revised applications on information architecture.
Consult with clients to determine information management requirements.
Provide training and professional development on Teradata technologies to staff.
Assure integration of transformed data with other databases and applications.
Design and lead the development, testing, and implementation of complex data extract transformations.
Provide development and production support in a 24 x 7 shop.
After hour and weekend support is required.df-tc

Experience/Skills
Must have 5+ years experience with Teradata.
Must have analytical ability, strong judgment and problem analysis techniques, an in-depth knowledge of Teradata/Unix database administration, Teradata DBMS best practices, and a strong data warehouse background.
Must have a broad knowledge of diverse data administration methodologies, database technologies, tools, and alternatives.
Must have a comprehensive knowledge/background in UNIX, MVS, and Win2k environments necessary to support Teradata tools and utilities.
Must have strong project management and good oral/written communication skills.
Must have experience developing DBA scripts to improve DBA productivity.
Manager is only interested in individuals who are also interested in FTE employment.

Preferred skills:
ERWin, Crystal, Perl, and Korn Shell scripting. Hardware/Operating Systems/Software: NCR, IBM Mainframe and RS6000, EMC, AIX, Tivoli, UNIX, Win2k.
