Description
A client of ours, with operations in Nashville, TN, is searching for a candidate to fulfill the role of Support Engineer. In this role, you'll be responsible for providing support for escalated problems for UNIX servers, including Sun, RS/6000 and Linux systems. You'll be functioning within the UNIX Support engineering team and will act as second level support. In addition, you'll be responsible for documenting processes to improve system recovery. As a Support Engineer, you'll participate in continuous process reviews and provide training for other staff.

Experience/Skills
To qualify for consideration for this position, you must meet or exceed the following:

  • A 4-year degree, preferably in Computer Sciences or Information Technology or equivalent, related work experience.
  • Progress toward or completed UNIX, network or security certifications are preferred.
  • 5+ years experience in the information technology industry, with 2+ years of experience supporting Sun, RS/6000 or Linux systems.
  • Demonstrable technical problem solving skills and resourcefulness along with ability to quickly analyze, evaluate and resolve technical problems and the ability to track and document problem resolution steps in a problem management system.
  • Excellent working knowledge of UNIX infrastructure, networking, configuration and administration on various major UNIX platforms (e.g., SUN, RS/6000, Linux).
  • Knowledge of NT/Novell and Windows 2000 environments, Network Management setup/administration experience, and a thorough understanding of LAN/WAN network configurations is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and experience using the Microsoft Office applications.
  • Knowledge in Harvest, Tivoli, best1, Etrust, Veritas clustering and GCO clusters, SSH, NFS file sharing, DiskSuite, EMC devices, Sendmail, scripting, and NDM are a plus.
  • Flexibility that allows you to be involved in 24x7 operational problems. After hours and weekend work may be required as well. Limited travel is required.
